Officials at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre
and the Health Unit have declared an outbreak of gastrointestinal
illness in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Rotavirus
has been identified at the cause of the outbreak. Visitor
restrictions are in place within the NICU.
The Health Unit reminds you to prevent getting and spreading
infections by:
- washing your hands frequently, for at least 15 seconds
with soap and warm water, or by using a hand sanitizer.
- staying at home if you are ill to avoid spreading infections
to others in both the acute care and long-term care areas
of the hospital.

The Enteric Outbreak affecting the Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has
been declared over today.
