The
following are the current visitation restrictions implemented
in Regional healthcare settings:
Sioux Lookout, Ontario
February 23, 2005
Laura Kokocinski, Vice President of Health Services, announced
earlier this morning, “There are confirmed cases of
influenza at the Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre.
Acting on the advice of the NWH Unit all non-emergency services
at the hospital are restricted until further notice. The public
is asked not to come to the hospital unless absolutely necessary.
The emergency department remains open to those requiring (urgent
or) emergency care.”
In order to ensure patient and staff safety while in hospital,
we will be implementing the following measures effective immediately:
- Visitors are restricted.
- Only a parent of a child admitted to the hospital, a partner
attending the delivery of a baby, or an immediate family member
of a critically ill or palliative care patient whose death
is imminent will be allowed to visit patients in the hospital.
- All visitors must hand wash and mask while in the hospital
(ie. 5th Avenue Site, 7th Avenue Site, and William George
Extended Care facility).
- Entrance to inpatient facilities at 5th Avenue Site, 7th
Avenue Site, and William George Extended Care facility have
been limited to only one entrance, where screening will take
place.
Hand Wash stations and masks will be provided by the hospital.
These measures will be in place until further notice. The
Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre wants to thank the
public for their patience and continuing support.
Atikokan, Ontario
February 23, 2005
As of 1000 hours Wednesday, February 23, Atikokan General
Hospital has declared an Influenza "A" outbreak.
The Medical Officer of Health has issued a Section 22 on our
hospital which will prohibit any staff member who has not
been immunized for the flu (or declines to take the anti viral
medication) from entering the hospital. This order will be
in place for at least the next two weeks.
We have introduced a number of measures including very limited
visiting, screening of all patients and staff as they enter
the building, and heightened surveillance, mandatory masking
and hand washing for all patients and staff when directly
dealing with patients, etc.
At this time we will be continuing our regular patient clinics.
This may change, depending on circumstances. We do not anticipate
transferring any of our patients to other facilities.
