In
support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Regional Cancer Care is pleased to announce the launch of their second annual Styling for
Life campaign to promote breast cancer screening among women age 50 and older.
The Styling for Life campaign was piloted in Thunder Bay last year with great success. This year Regional Cancer Care partnered with
the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and the Northwest Health Unit to expand the campaign across Northwestern Ontario. To date, 70 salons
from Kenora to Longlac have signed up to participate.
“In Northwestern Ontario, only half of all eligible women are screened regularly for breast cancer. What we hope to accomplish
with campaigns like Styling for Life is to encourage women to talk with each other about the importance of breast screening,”
says Lori Della Vedova, Manager of Cancer Screening Programs, Regional Cancer Care.
The campaign runs from October 1 to October 31, 2009 and builds on the special relationship between stylists and their clients. Participating
salons are provided with simple facts about breast cancer screening and fun promotional items to encourage easy and open conversation
between stylists and clients about the importance of breast screening for women.
Glenn Craig, President and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, says the Styling for Life program is an effective
and unique way to bring breast health awareness to the women of Northwestern Ontario. "I applaud Regional Cancer Care for implementing
the Styling for Life campaign. It is a perfect compliment to the breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs supported
by our Northern Cancer Fund," he says.
In Thunder Bay look for the Styling for Life logo at the following salons: Cimaron Hair Design, Katoo Salon and Jewellery, A Streak
of Green, Amici Hair Studio, Aldo’s Hair Design, Salon on 10th, Modern Twist Salon and Mirror Mirror.
