Avoid using playpens that have been recalled and
cannot be retrofitted. If you receive a second hand
playpen, please check to see if it is on a recall list.
To prevent injury or death to a child in a playpen, parents
should take the following precautions:
| |
|
- Make sure sides are up and secure. Never leave
an infant in a playpen with the sides down:
your baby may roll into the pocket created
between the mesh and the playpen causing suffocation.
- The netting or mesh should have a vey small weave:
smaller than your baby’s fingers. It should
be free of tears, holes, and loose strings. Ensure
the mesh is securely attached to the top rail and
floor plate.
- Make sure screws and staples are firmly installed
and that none are missing or loose.
- Make sure the pad is no more than 1 inch thick.
It should be firm and fit snugly. Do not use a pad
that was designed for a different playpen.
- Place the play yard or play pen out of reach of
window-blinds, curtains, or electrical cords.
