Animals & Insects

Teach your child not to approach a dog he/she doesn’t know. Tell your child to never surprise or scare a dog.

Tips for Insects

  • Check your home for bee or wasp nests by looking in eaves, under decks, etc.
  • Avoid areas with insect nests.
  • Tell your child not to touch or throw things at nests.
  • Keep as much of your child’s skin covered with clothing (i.e. long sleeve shirt, long pants, socks, hat, etc.) to avoid insect bites.
  • By wearing light colored clothing, this may attract fewer bugs.
  • Avoid using any scented soaps or other products on your child as fragrances can also attract insects.
  • Only use insect repellents that are approved for children and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Consider applying insect repellents to clothing instead of to skin so that the repellent isn’t absorbed into your child’s skin.
  • Wash off insect repellents as soon as possible.
